Résumé

The deposition of particles onto surfaces leads to numerous technical problems, e.g. particulate fouling in heat exchangers. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying physical-chemical processes, a numerical model is developed and its results are compared with experimental data of the deposition of fine particles for laminar and turbulent water flow. Particle adhesion is modelled by the interaction forces between particles and wall taking the van der Waals forces and the Coulombic forces associated with charged surfaces into account. The results show reasonable agreement with the experimental data. The method predicts the reduced deposition rate for high flow rates due to lift forces acting on the particles as well as the influence of temperature on deposition. Temperature gradients inducing thermophoresis are found to greatly affect deposition rate especially for small adhesion probabilities.
