Résumé

A critical element of plate heat exchanger construction is the use of elastomers to provide a seal between the plate elements.
The type of materials used range from Nitrile's (NBR) to EPDM's to Fluorocarbon elastomers.
The detailed constituents of each compound mix dictate the quality of the seals and have a direct effect on the p.h.e.'s pressure and temperature performance and reliability.
A paper was presented on this topic at the National Heat Transfer Conference 1993, held in Atlanta, Georgia. The work reported here makes further comparisons between various elastomer grades both of original manufacturer and alternative supply.
