Résumé

There is long-standing controversy over the problem of contact angle hysteresis. This work provided a new approach to investigate the critical defect size on solid surface that produces the contact angle hysteresis. We compared the wetting processes on absolutely smooth surfaces and real rough surfaces. The results confirmed that static friction induced by even atomic-scale roughness on solid surface can lead to contact angle hysteresis.
