A DISCRETE VARIABLE METHOD APPLIED TO TRANSIENT HEAT-CONDUCTION PROBLEMS

A discrete variable method was presented for solving problems of heat conduction in solids. This method maintained the generality of geometry and material properties of solids in a manner similar to the finite-element method. In addition, this method has the same advantage as finite-difference methods in that the formulation of a functional is not required. Hence, the present method can be easily applied also to nonlinear heat conduction problems. General discrete mathematical models were developed that enable one to approximate solutions of transient heat conduction in an arbitrary three-dimensional body subjected to the described initial conditions and convection-radiation boundary conditions.
