Thermocapillary Convection in Thin Liquid Layer with Temperature Gradient Inclined to Free Surface

要約

Thermocapillary-driven convection in a thin liquid layer of up to 2 mm in depth was experimentally investigated under the normal gravity condition. Silicone oil of 2, 5, 10 and 20 cSt was employed as the test fluid. In the present study, temperature gradient was applied to the liquid layer with an inclination to the free surface; i.e., perpendicular- and parallel-temperature gradients were imposed to the free surface simultaneously. The flow fields obtained in the terrestrial experiments were categorized into five patterns; Marangoni-Benard convection, Flowing Bénard cells, Streak convection and Horizontal circulation with increasing horizontal Marangoni effect, and Stagnation. The occurrence conditions of these flow patterns were obtained in terms of the horizontal- and vertical-Marangoni numbers.
