要約

The three-dimensional(3-D), laminar, natural convection from a plate with uniform surface heat flux and with finite height, finite width, and zero-thickness placed vertically in an infinite space is analysed numerically by finite difference method using the vector-potential. The present solutions were validated by examining the mesh dependency and the convergence, and comparing with the existing experiment. From comparison of the computed local and mean Nusselt numbers with those determined by the two-dimensional(2-D) boundary layer theory, the local and mean heat transfer were firstly found to be suppressed or enhanced by three-dimensional effect. Local and mean heat transfer were suppressed with increase of the modified Grashof number and/or the aspect ratio.
