NUMERICAL STUDY OF MIXED CONVECTION IN A CHANNEL WITH PERIODIC CAVITIES
A finite-difference numerical study is performed on laminar mixed convection in a channel, in the lower plate of which heated periodic open-cavities are embedded. Fully-developed flow and heat transfer are assumed. Computed results demonstrate that a considerable mass of the throughflow in the channel entrains the cavity interior to replace the rising buoyant-flow from the lower part of the cavity. The overall pressure drop of the flow passage is found to be strongly dependent on the intensity of the buoyancy forces.
