Resumo

There are two regions of the flow on a solid surface impinged by a jet, i.e., the impingement region and the wall jet region. It is very important for the technological applications of the jet to know the heat transfer in these regions. This paper presents a fundamental study on the heat transfer phenomena of a round subsonic air jet impinging normally on a flat plate. Good agreements between the theory and experiments are obtained in the wall jet region, however, in the impingement region, the existence of strong turbulent fluctuation seems to increase the heat transfer coefficients up to a value 1.5 times larger th an th ose obtained theoretically, when the plate is set outside the potential core of the round free jet.
