Resumo

A mathematical model of a multi-pass crossflow heat exchanger incorporating the effects of primary fluid mixing and the interactions between primary and secondary fluids is described. The model equations are solved numerically for typical boundary conditions in a once-through boiler.
The predictions of a computer program based on the model are compared with air temperature measurements made in an atmospheric pressure wind tunnel with uncooled tubes and in a pressurised wind tunnel with water-cooled tubes. The practical application of the program is illustrated by the solution of an operational problem in a once-through boiler with a number of water/steam passes blocked off.
