Resumo

The numerical and the experimental investigations were conducted on the two-layer Benard convection in a slender cavity with two miscible fluids. The simulation demonstrated two types of the interaction between the layers, i.e. the thermal and the hydrodynamic couplings. The experiment well demonstrated the thermal coupling situation, and the convection pattern in the two-layer experiment was similar to those in the partitioned cell. The presented results gave fundamental understanding on the convection pattern and also gave a basis for verifying the simulation codes.
