SIMULTANEOUS HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER WITH AQUARIUMS
Resumo
This paper reports the results of the design analysis for sizing the cooling system for large outdoor aquariums such as at Sea World and examines the thermal performance of the pool over various periods of time. Results show that the energy associated with the convective mass transfer is at times of the same order of magnitude as the convective heat transfer. Solar radiation and nocturnal cooling are also significant energy quantities. The thermal capacity of the pool of water may prove significant in averaging out the variations in heat gains and losses and has been used toward reducing the size of mechanical refrigeration needed to maintain the aquarium temperature within specified limits.
