Resumo

The heat transfer in a tube bundle with cross-flow arrangement, where liquid flows inside tubes, alternating its flow direction from one tube to the next with gas flowing in perpendicular direction to them, has been carried out.
The aim of this report is to. develop a thermal theory valid for an arbitrary size tube bundle arranged as described above. To achieve this an exact mathematical treatment has been applied. The problem was solved by using the method of weighted mean value of outside fluid temperature described in [1] and outlined in appendix I. For any tube in bundle the liquid temperature is expressed by special polynomials suited to this problem which are generated by using the recursive procedure.
As end result it has been proved, that for such cross-flow arrangement, with an arbitrary number n of tubes in bundle, given NTU value and the heat capacity rate ratio R, the exact procedure for thermal effectiveness P can be established.
The developed method is illustrated in diagrams with normalized mean temperature difference versus thermal effectiveness.
