VISUALIZATION OF HEAT TRANSFER
When heat transfer is associated to a convective fluid flow, visualization of heat transfer essentially employs the
methods of flow visualization; three of them are reviewed here: (a) the heat transfer to a solid wall can be visualized
by making use of the analogy between mass and heat transfer, or by a thermographic mapping of the solid surface.
(b) Several kinds of tracer material are available to visualize the velocity field of convective fluid flows. (c) The density
field associated to such flows can be made visible by optical methods; among them optical interferometers are an appropriate
means to provide quantitative data of the density or of the temperature distribution.
