A theoretical study is performed to investigate heat transport phenomena in a two-dimensional channel with uniform heat flux heating. A k-ε turbulence model is employed to determine the turbulent kinetic energy, its dissipation rate, and the heat transfer performance. The governing boundary-layer equations are discretized by means of a control volume finite-difference technique and numerically solved using a marching procedure. It is predicted that (i) when laminarization takes place, the velocity gradient in the vicinity of the wall is decreased in the flow direction, resulting in a substantial attenuation in the turbulent kinetic energy over the entire channel cross section, and (ii) laminarization causes a decrease in the time-averaged temperature gradient at the wall, resulting in the deterioration of heat transfer performance. Therefore, if the two-dimensional channel is strongly heated from both sides, the fluid flow may be laminarized as with circular tube flow cases.
