Аннотация

The Reynolds stress in a 2-D air filled square cavity is presented in this paper. The cavity was 0.75 m × high 0.75 m × wide × 1.5 m deep with two opposite isothermal walls at 50 °C and 10 °C giving a Ra number of 1.58 × 109. The distribution of the Reynolds stress is anti-symmetrical and it is more intense at the downstream of the boundary layers that form on the hot and cold walls of the cavity than anywhere else. At mid-height, the Reynolds stress is nearly zero in the thermo-viscous layer. It increases rapidly in the buoyant sub-layer and reaches its maximum in the outer region. In the core region, the Reynolds stress is zero. Comparison with some earlier results is presented. The present results were obtained with high accuracy and should be useful for CFD code validation.
