TRANSITION FROM FORCED TO NATURAL CONVECTION FLOW IN AN LMFBR UNDER ADVERSE THERMAL CONDITIONS
摘要
The transition from forced to natural convection flow in an LMFBR during events which lead to adverse thermal gradients has been analyzed and compared to experiments conducted in EBR-II. The dynamic thermal-hydraulic boundary conditions imposed upon a reactor core by the balance of the heat transport circuit were shown to strongly affect the tendency for flow reversal/recirculation within radial blanket assemblies. The distribution of volumetric heat capacity between fluid and solid for various subassemblies has a similar importance. The one-dimensional modeling employed in the code used (NATDEMO) appears to adequately describe the observed phenomena, but for systems with significantly large upper plenums than that in EBR-II, an improved accounting of multi-dimensional effects must be made.
