OPTICAL AND ACOUSTIC STUDY OF THE RAPID VAPORIZATION OF LIQUIDS ON A SOLID SURFACE INDUCED BY PULSED ULTRAVIOLET LASER IRRADIATION
摘要
The dynamics of the explosive vaporization of various liquids on a solid surface at the nanosecond time-scale are studied experimentally. Pure water, methanol, isopropanol (IPA) are in contact with a solid chromium surface that is heated by ultraviolet (UV) KrF excimer laser pulses of nanosecond duration. The laser fluence threshold for vaporization and the transient development of the bubble nucleation process are monitored by optical reflectance and scattering measurements. The onset of phase change is marked by a strong acoustic signal that is detected by a piezoelectric transducer. In addition, it is observed that the thermally driven phase change generates pressure waves in the liquid that trigger subsequent acoustic cavitation.
