摘要

Turbulators or inserts are extensively used for heat transfer augmentation in various thermal devices. Convective heat transfer and pressure drop performance of a circular inclined heat exchanger tube in presence of spring tape inserts is evaluated experimentally in the present investigation. STAROL THERMIC OIL 500 is used as the working fluid and the Reynolds number is varied between 500 to 2500. The heat exchanger tube is inclined at 15° from the horizontal. Uniform heat flux i.e. q = 2, 3, and 4 kW/m2 is maintained at the surface of tube. The spring tape inserts having spring ratios 3, 4 and 5 were fabricated with brass sheet having 1 mm thickness and 16 mm width. The results obtained from the investigation shows enhancement in the thermal performance. In order to forecast the experimental results in the laminar flow regimes as a function of Reynolds number, spring ratio, and heat flux, heat transfer and pressure drop correlations were developed.
