Abstract

Accurate calculation of cooling rates under high-speed free molecular flow conditions is important in space vehicle design. This paper presents an analytical solution for heat transfer and momentum in a rectangular channel using an approximate analytical form for the kernel. The heat transfer is reported as a function of plate temperatures, channel dimensions, and flow speed; and the approach of internal flow results to the external flow limit is studied.
