Abstract

Two-dimensional laminar heat transfer and fluid flow in plane enlarged channels are numerically analyzed by employing the finite difference method to Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation. The present calculations were conducted by the time splitting method based on MAC method. Two configurations are treated in the paper; namely, a plane channel with symmetric expansion and that with asymmetric expansion. In both of them, the upstream wall is followed by an inclined flat one connecting to the downstream flat wall. It is found that the streamwise length of recirculation region increases with an increase of the expansion angle for both of the two cases. On the other hand, the local heat transfer feature varies little with the expansion angle for the asymmetric expansion, but that changes clearly for the symmetric expansion.
