Abstract

A numerical and experimental analysis of transient heat transfer inside cylindrical liquid-filled containers, whose heights are comparable to their diameters, has been conducted under the hypothesis of given thermal power supply. The fluid and container surface mean temperatures and the time-dependent distributions of the coefficient of convection have been determined in the case of water. The distributions of the Nusselt number versus the Rayleigh number have been calculated. As a result, after a time interval from the start, a "pseudo-stationary" condition occurs, in the sense that the fluid-container temperature difference and the thermal flux absorbed by the fluid tend to keep constant in time.
