Abstract

Steady heat transfer from a two-dimensional discrete protruding heater mounted on a vertical wall has been experimentally studied. The buoyant air flow generated in the wake of the heater has been visualized using an interferometer. Using the fringe patterns the local Nusselt number and the extent of the wake as a function of the Rayleigh number are determined. Results show that average increases gradually with an increase in Rayleigh number. However the extent of the wake is a much stronger function of Rayleigh number.
