Abstract

ENEL s.p.a. (the Italian National Electricity Board) has planned the installation of several combined cycle power plants in the future years. Consequently, a great interest in heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) has arisen. So ENEL and CISE have agreed on a series of experimental studies on heat transfer in tinned tubes. Two test sections were prepared, representative of tube banks that are going to be installed in two plains under construction. A test facility was available in CISE and was adapted for the work. Measurements include shell side pressure drop, mean heat transfer coefficient in the whole heat exchanger and heat transfer coefficient in the first and in the second part of it. Special tests were conducted also for evaluating internal heat transfer coefficient. A bare tube bundle was tested too. in order to compare results with those of finned tubes. The paper presents test results and compares them with predictions based on selected correlations available in the literature.
