Abstract

Thermosolutal natural convection is an important phenomenon in solid-liquid phase change processes of multicomponent systems. The temperature and composition differences imposed to the system induce density variations in the fluid phase, and the resulting double diffusive convection flow affects the heat and mass transfer rates at the interface. The purpose of this paper is to report experimental and numerical results on the multicellular structure of the double diffusive convective flow driven by melting in a binary system.
