Abstract

This work presents a numerical study of the influence of vortex generators on the flow structure and heal transfer of a fin-tube channel. The momentum and energy conservation equations were solved by finite volume method using a boundary-fitted coordinates system. The influence of vortex generators parameters such as position, angle of attack and aspect ratio was investigated. The local and global influence of vortex generators on heat transfer and flow losses were analyzed by comparison to the numerical results for smooth fins. The results indicate that heat transfer enhancement and flow losses reduction can be obtained simultaneously by using vortex generators in this kind of geometry.
