Abstract

Numerical computations of the flow and thermal fields in the melt were performed for the yttrium barium copper oxide superconductor (YBa2Cu307−x) single crystal growth by the modified Czochralski method. The finite volume method with staggered numerical grids was used to calculate the fluid flow and heat transfer. The flow in the melt was assumed to be axisymmetric and was modelled as an incompressible Newtonian Boussinesq-fluid. Heat transfer was due to both convection and diffusion. Calculations were presented for the combination of the buoyancy - driven flow and the flow driven by a crystal rotation.
