Abstract

Radiative heat transfer in a square enclosure with a single vertical partition and containing a grey emitting-absorbing medium is investigated. The Monte Carlo and the discrete ordinates methods are used for that purpose. The influence of the length and location of the partition, the emissivity of the boundaries, the absorption coefficient and the temperature of the medium are discussed. It is shown that the region near the corner of the enclosure closer to the partition is protected from the highest incident heat fluxes. The influence of the baffle is larger when the medium is optically thin and the emissivity of the boundaries is high.
