COUPLING BETWEEN HEAT TRANSFER AND RUBBER VULCANIZATION
Abstract
This work concerns the study of the coupling between heat transfer and rubber vulcanization.
We have first focused our attention on the determination of the thermal effects in relation with the chemical reactions. The possible errors in the determination of the total heat of reaction and of the kinetic are analysed. We have shown the important role of the gas release on the value of the total heat of reaction but also on the kinetic itself. The duration of the induction period preceeding the cross-linking is expressed as a function of the thermal history. We present an original model to calculate the rate of cure as a function of the temperature and of the state of cure. A complete model including the reactions during the induction period is given. The results of an experimental study on thick pieces are also presented.
