EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE HEAT CONDUCTION WITH PHASE CHANGE
Sinopsis
The solidification problems in the cylindrical and planar containers cooled by convection have been solved by the application of the enthalpy model in conjunction with a fully implicit finite-difference scheme and have been studied experimentally using paraffin wax as a phase change material. In comparison with Neumann's exact solution it shows that the accuracy of the method used is satisfactory. The variation of the solid-liquid interface position and temperature profile measured in experiments were compared with the theoretical prediction obtained by the numerical method. The agreement is good. Based on the calculated results, the relations between the non-dimensional groups such as the full solidification period, the average heat flux at the container wall, the Biot and Stefan noduli are obtained and presented in charts, which are useful in practical application.
