VERTICAL FLUTED TUBE CONDENSER PERFORMANCE PREDICTION
Sinopsis
The paper presents a simplified method for predicting the performance and sizing of vertical fluted tube condensers with periodic drainoff of liquid in flute troughs. The condensate thickness and the heat transfer coefficient
along the fluted surface is evaluated. The condensate
flow in the trough, as a function of height is also determined. Finally, an overall heat transfer coefficient for the whole tube is obtained. The emphasis of the paper is on the procedure for evaluation of the fluted tube
performance and/or sizing of the condenser. An
illustrative example is presented. It was found
that the average heat transfer coefficient for
a fluted tube (h) is dependent on pertinent tube
parameters as follows h ∼ aO.231/(p.L.0.0774)
where a, p and L are respectively amplitude of
the flute, pitch of the flute and the tube
length.
