LAMINAR HEAT TRANSFER TO CAVITIES IN HYPERSONIC LOW DENSITY FLOW
Résumé
Results are presented of experimental and theoretical studies of laminar convective heat transfer to cavities in hypersonic low density flow. Heat flux distributions within cylindrical and conical cavities were measured in a hypersonic air arc tunnel. It was found that the maximum heat flux occurred at the downstream upper corner of the cavity, with a rapid decrease in the downward reverse flow direction within the cavity. An approximate theoretical model was developed which agreed well with the present experimental results, as well as with previously published results of Larson for shallow cavities at much higher Reynolds number.
