THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MOLTEN SALTS AS THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE MATERIALS
Resumo
In a thermal storage system, the use of a molten salt as the storage medium could extend the applicable range of temperature and reduce the required volume by
making use of the latent heat of fusion.
In any design of a storage system, the thermophysical properties are of prime importance. However, the data of molten salts are not sufficient to design the
storage unit.
In this study, four kinds of measuring methods have been applied to get the thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and latent heat of fusion of the salts in both phases of solid and liquid. The measured results are presented mainly for nitrates and discussed in the relations both to other reference data and to their potential use as the energy storage salts.
