HEAT FLOW ACROSS CYLINDRICAL METALLIC JOINTS
Résumé
Although the mechanism of heat flow across flat metallic contacts has been well explored, the comparable mechanism with cylindrical contacts has received relatively little attention. This paper surveys the basic problems of cylindrical contacts, comparing these with flat contacts, and reports the results of two experimental investigations. The first of these simulated only a part of a cylindrical contact. The second series of tests, on fully cylindrical test specimens having differing degrees of fit, produced predictable results with cylinders having clearance, but were inconclusive with interference fits on account of the very low values of contact resistance
resulting from the extremely high interface pressures generated.
